About Us

Chard, celeriac and aubergines!

On Saturday the farm was alive with activities. Our Community Farmer day saw 16 volunteers harvest 65 kilos of chard in 25 minutes (something of a record, apparently), plant 1,200 runner beans and weed the entire celeriac bed. Thanks to everyone who came along.
Whilst all this hard work was going on, 14 children were exploring the farm with Travelling Light Theatre Company devising their 'Play in a Day’ – A Midsummer Night’s Aubergine – loosely based on William Shakespeare’s classic! At 4pm the budding young actors performed to their parents, volunteers and those who’d arrived for the midsummer picnic, leading us around the farm telling us their tale of the king and queen of the fairies, with various vegetables thrown in for good measure. I’m sure the bard would have been proud to see his tale interpreted in this way.
After that, we feasted on the delights that picnic makers had brought up, shared stories and enjoyed good company. Despite a bad weather forecast we were very lucky with just a few showers early on in the day.
Saturday was one of the best days we’ve had at the farm so far. It summed up exactly what we’re about – involving people in reconnecting with the land.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work and delicious food. Next date for your diary is the Harvest Celebration on 14th September. Pop the date in your diary now and more details will follow.
