We got there in the end! We were first hindered by floods in November and then by snow last week but in the end we were definitely third time lucky! The sun was out and we were even greeted with a fantastic double rainbow!
During the day we officially opened our beautiful new Yurt and celebrated the launch of our Learning Programme at the farm. Alongside adult learning courses at the farm we will be holding children’s activity days (the first of which are in the Easter holidays - see the learning programme) and inviting school groups to the farm.
Congratulations to Debbie Wyatt for winning the Organic Bake-Off - she and husband Will will be off to The Pony and Trap for a fantastic 8 course Taster Menu!
We wassailed our young apple trees with help from our young Wassail Queen and then finished the day with wonderful live music from Woe to the Provoker.
All money raised on the day will contribute towards our Solar PV system which we are installing in February.
'The Seed'
As part of the day, Mother Courage Arts had built a wonderful art installation, 'The Seed’, made from locally coppiced hazel. It takes the form of a spiral within the yurt (inspired by the embryo of a seed) and continues outside, eventually rooting into the hedge-line. On the day people were invited into the centre of the spiral where they posted their thoughts on the value of Land, Food and People - the three cornerstones of The Community Farm. The sculpture will remain inside the yurt for the next month so we welcome any further additions to it if you get the chance to visit us. We have plans to eventually move the sculpture outside where it will take on a new life as a pea-spiral!
Thanks to our fantastic volunteers!
The success of Sunday’s event is a real testament to the dedicated support of our volunteers. All of our events and Community Farmer Days are run 100% on a voluntary basis and just could not happen without the fabulous community that make The Community Farm what it is.
