The fields are beginning to look amazing again as the crops have begun to explode with all the perfect growing weather we are having. Our Head Grower, John, is working hard with the growing team and volunteers. The results are looking stunning. Many are in agreement that the tomatoes are the best we have ever seen. The leeks are looking better than ever before and we are beginning to get the first cucumbers and courgettes already. Expect to start seeing lots of bountiful produce from our land in your boxes over the coming weeks.>
Farm Engagement Leader
We’re delighted to welcome Hatty Richards to the field team. Hatty will be working closely with our Community Farmer, Ian, to help deliver a volunteering programme on the fields as part of the Esmee Fairbairn grant project. Bringing with her a wealth of experience in volunteer management and field work, we think Hatty will have a wonderful impact on the growing operation.Grow Well Horticultural Scheme
We are pleased to announce that we have been able to continue our work with The Bristol Drugs Project. Together we’re providing an opportunity for those in recovery to get out on to the fields and learn about organic horticulture. The sessions will be centred on growing vegetables on small plots, plot upkeep and maintenance and maybe even some woodwork skills too! Jen Howarth will be leading the project. She comes to us with years of experience working with both community growing projects and organisations which help vulnerable people.Cheese
We are now stocking Bath Soft Cheese alongside our ever-growing range of organic extras. All of the cheeses are organic and made using traditional methods. We are finally moving!
The first phase of our move to the new agricultural barn on the field has been completed, and we are now operating our wholesale and box packing operation out of there. Working together on a single site will allow us to operate more effectively as a team, and we’ll save on the journeys between locations. A grant that we received through the Real Farming Trust helped us to make this move a reality. Without it, we would not have been able to complete the huge job of moving our fridges. Luke Hasell (our landlord and one of The Community Farm’s founders) has done an amazing job getting the barn put up and fit for use. We will be forever grateful for the all work that has gone into the project. All of our staff have been brilliant – chipping in to help out with the move and being incredibly patient while we’ve been kitting and fitting out the new premises. Thank you to everyone involved!Community Farmer Days
