Many thanks to all of you that made it out for our Wassail on saturday. We had a fantastic turn-out, despite the chilly weather and had great fun toasting our apple trees for a good harvest to come.
We welcomed true Westcountry man and experienced Wassailer Les Davies to lead our ceremony with the help of our Wassail King who placed toast (dipped in cider) in the branches of the tree to encourage the good spirits whilst everyone made a right old racket to scare away the bad spirits!
Alongside the ceremony we enjoyed a wonderful apple themed story from Rachel Slee, our volunteer story-teller for the afternoon, we listened to Wassail songs led by choir leader and singing coach Polly Thompson-Wilde, children (and adults) made Wassail lanterns and got involved in a little competitive welly wanging! All of this whilst enjoying some wonderful mulled cider (and apple juice) and cake.
This event was run 100% through volunteer support on the day so a huge thank you to all volunteers and cake-bakers!
All proceeds from the day will go towards developing our Education Area, including buying plants for our new Forest Garden which we're going to start preparing at our next Community Farmer Day on Sat 15th Feb.
