For the last two years, my company Earthwise has been working in partnership with The Community Farm to offer educational visits for schools and community groups, school holiday activities, children’s cookery events, and birthday parties.
As a former employee of The Farm, I fell in love with the place. I quickly realised its huge potential for inspiring and educating the next generation about their food and how it can be grown in a way that helps sustain our planet for the future. Thanks to The Farm’s 'get on our land’ approach, kids can be hands on with picking and planting. We even prepare food on site in our yurt and wood fired cob-oven! As an organic farm, its home to a huge variety of wildlife, which the children have great fun exploring.
Last year we welcomed a whopping 383 school children from across Bristol, Bath and Somerset to The Farm during just two months in the summer term. If you have children in school then please let them know about our school visits. We are currently taking bookings for the autumn term.
This autumn we’re celebrating the harvest in the best way possible - inviting children and their parents along to harvest crops and transform them into a tasty seasonal meal with award winning children’s cook Jo Ingleby. Picking the food directly from the fields is a wonderful way to encourage fussy eaters and budding chefs alike! Book early as this is always a popular one.
