News from the farm: March 2016

Spring is just around the corner, the days are getting noticeably longer and exciting things are happening here at The Community Farm.

Our wonderful landlord, Luke Hassel, is building us a brand new warehouse and agricultural barn to move into. This will enable all operations to be done on one site, increasing efficiency and engendering a real sense of togetherness for the whole team.

What is especially exciting for us is that we will have some storage for all those field bits and bobs that seem to get dispersed over so many acres and workshop space to keep all our tools and equipment organised and in good order. Hurrah!

We have now sourced all the parts required to rebuild our wonderful yurt and will begin its resurrection once the goodies have arrived. We will need a three day window of settled weather and some willing hands so please do get in touch if you would like to help.

Once our yurt is up we will be hosting a 'Spring into Action’ workshop where we will be going through the finer details of this seasons growing plan. This gives all our volunteers a chance to gain an in depth knowledge of what we are trying to achieve. It will be an exciting time to get involved as you will have the opportunity to join us for the whole growing journey from germination through to harvest. You will learn first-hand the trials and triumphs of growing field scale vegetables. We would love to have you there!

April is going to be a big month for our volunteers. We will start welcoming volunteers six days a week; Monday to Saturday from 9am. April will also see the return of our much loved Community Farmer Days. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’ve got the perfect antidote to the school classroom! Over the Easter holidays, Earthwise will be running children's activities at The Community Farm. Each course runs over two days, one day spent on the farm and the other spent at a Forest School. These activity days are always very popular so make sure that you book well in advance to secure a place.
