As the sun looks like it's making a reappearance, it's the perfect opportunity to make some really stunning salads and summer dishes. We have added a few new extras to our range of produce this week to help you get the most out of summer meals. Our summer salad leaves are in full flourish on the field and provide an interesting base to any salad. The salad bags contain a mix including Salinova, heritage Batavia and Little Gem. Add in a bunch of our fresh watercress from Wiltshire and you have perfection in a bowl. Watercress is a great source of Vitamins A, C and K, is rich in the B-complex group of vitamins and contains a range of minerals vital food good health - and it tastes wonderful, rich and peppery.
If you've not tried our sprouted seeds yet, now is the time to do so. Added to a green salad, served on the side with a light dressing of good olive oil and balsamic vinegar, or made into interesting vegetarian dips, sprouted seeds are incredibly nutritious; studies show remarkable levels of B Vitamins, as well as Vitamins C, E and A. Some folks refer to sprouts as "pre-digested" food due to this breaking down process in the sprouting stage of life. This makes the sprouts far easier to digest than the original seed, bean, nut or grain. The heightened quantity of enzymes is another factor that aids in their digestion. We have boxes of organic alfalfa sprouts and mixed sprouted beans and pulses from Sky Sprouts, fresh and ready to use in salads, sandwiches, soups and anything else that takes your fancy. The best "fast food" available.
This week we've added good old fashioned loose tomatoes to our list of extras. Good in salads and also as the basis for summer vegetable dishes, soups and dips. Of course we still have our cherry tomatoes available - a favourite with our customers for their sweetness and ease of eating.
Finally, we've added our own runner beans and sweetcorn to the list of extra produce available. As fresh as a daisy, they are the ultimate summer treat, cooked and tossed simply in butter. Don't forget that the beans can be thinly sliced and added raw to salads and sandwiches. Enjoy!
