If you had a fruit box last week and found some jostaberries in there but had never had them before, you were not alone! It turns out that they are a cross between blackcurrants and gooseberries with a unique, but delicious flavour.
They can be eaten raw or cooked. We decided to make Jostaberry Surprise (the surprise being that we didn't know what they tasted like!). We topped the fruit with a sponge made of 100g butter, 50g sugar, 100g ground almonds, 2 eggs and a tablespoon of ameretto. Baked in the oven for about 40 minutes the combination of flavours was excellent and the pudding polished off in no time!
This topping also works really well with raspberries, plums and blackcurrants.
