We thought we'd share the press release of the Bristol Energy Cooperative whoa re raising funds through community shares. See below.
The Bristol Energy Cooperative has made a stunning start to its community energy share launch. Just 10 days into the month-long offer, over 80% of the £88,000 required had been pledged, and £40,000 worth of applications received.
Mark Corbin of the Co-op said: “We’re delighted, but not surprised. We’ve had lots of support over the 2 years we’ve been developing this idea, so it’s great to see that translated now into concrete financial backing.
“The first two projects in the share offer are for solar PV installations on 2 iconic community buildings in the city - Hamilton House in Stokes Croft, and Knowle West Media Centre. They do great things in Bristol, and our panels will help reduce their energy bills and save hundreds of tonnes of CO2.
“Our share offer gives everyone the chance to be a part of the renewable revolution, whether they own a roof or not. You can invest anything from £50 to £20,000. This is an ethical investment, with clear financial, environmental and social returns. The Co-op receives a guaranteed 25-year income from the government for the electricity generated, investors receive a projected 4% annual return on their investment, and community buildings benefit from green energy at reduced prices.
“As we’re a co-op, everyone receives one vote no matter how much they invest. Our aim is to make the benefits of local green energy available to as many people as possible, so if the share offer is over-subscribed, we’ll ensure everyone gets some shares wherever possible. We also have other solar installs in the pipeline that we’re keen to progress in the same way.”
The share offer ends on 18 May. The full share offer document is available at www.bristolenergy.coop
This press release is not an investment document. If you are unsure about the suitability of an investment you should seek advice from a suitably qualified financial adviser.
